• At dinner, Maria informed us that whatever wrangling the judge's wife had been able to do had, it appeared, kicked in. Our frustrated lawyer was finally able to file a complaint against Emily's dad that accused him of threatening me. The feisty attorney had subpoenaed the two officers who had been there at the time he'd made the statement. She had also filed suit against the police department. She had FOIA'd them for the records of the number of times that she had been pulled over in the last month. In the legal filing, she had submitted video records from her dash-cam that showed that half of the traffic stops had never been logged into the official records. She said that the Chief of Police was madder than a hornet - and was looking for somebody to fire.
